The Employer Credit for Paid Family and Medical Leave is a business credit based on a percentage of wages paid to qualifying employees for one of the reasons listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Does the Credit Entail?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The credit is 12.5% to 25% of up to 12 weeks of qualifying wages per year paid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ntypes of family and medical leave include:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The birth or adoption of a child<\/li><li>Caring for a family member with a serious medical condition<\/li><li>A serious health condition that makes the employee unable to do the functions of their position<\/li><li>Any qualifying exigency due to an employee\u2019s spouse, child or parent being on covered active duty (or having been notified of an impending call or order to covered active duty) in the Armed Forces<\/li><li>To care for a service member who\u2019s the employee\u2019s spouse, child, parent or next of kin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other forms of time off,\nsuch as vacation and sick leave, don\u2019t qualify for this particular credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note:<\/em> Employers may be eligible for one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/coronavirus\/new-employer-tax-credits\">employer credits<\/a> for paid leave because of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Can Employers Qualify For This Credit? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify to claim the credit, employers must have a written policy in\nplace that provides for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At least two weeks of paid leave to full-time employees (pro-rated for part-time employees), and<\/li><li>The paid leave must be at least 50% of the wages normally paid to the employee.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Does This Credit Expire?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This credit was extended through 2025 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.rules.house.gov\/files\/BILLS-116HR133SA-RCP-116-68.pdf\">CAA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What IRS Form Do You Use To Claim This Credit? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-prior\/f8994--2019.pdf\">Form 8994<\/a>,&nbsp;<em>Employer Credit for Paid Family and Medical Leave<\/em>, to claim the credit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(<strong>Extra tip: <\/strong>Here is a full list of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.blockadvisors.com\/tax-forms-for-small-businesses\/\">tax forms for small businesses<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Want Help Claiming The Employer Credit for Paid Family and Medical\nLeave?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a small business, it&#8217;s important to know your tax obligations and also gain the right tax support.
