{"id":7990,"date":"2024-07-09T08:04:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T14:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.blockadvisors.com\/resource-center\/?p=7990"},"modified":"2024-07-09T08:04:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T14:04:19","slug":"fund-her-future-grant-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blockadvisors.com\/resource-center\/news-center\/fund-her-future-grant-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"Five Women-Owned Small Businesses Awarded \u2018Fund Her Future\u2019 Grants from Block Advisors by H&amp;R Block to Support Growth, Drive Change"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The winners represent the diverse, purpose-driven small businesses today\u2019s women entrepreneurs are bringing to market<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KANSAS CITY, MO.,&nbsp;July 9, 2024 \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blockadvisors.com\/?campaignid=pr_mcm_p004_0033_fy24_lob-ba_201_p07_a14_04292024_can_fhf-grant-announcement\">Block Advisors<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/?campaignid=pr_mcm_p004_0032_fy24_lob-ba_101_p07_a14_04292024_can_fhf-grant-announcement\">H&amp;R Block<\/a> today announced the five women-owned small businesses winners of the \u2018Fund Her Future\u2019 grant program, which awarded a combined total of $100,000 in grants and a year of Block Advisors services, including bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation and business formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile we have surpassed our goal to help 500,000 small business owners by 2025, we specifically launched this grant to empower women small business owners who are often underrepresented,\u201d said Jamil Khan, Chief Strategy and Small Business Officer at H&amp;R Block. \u201cThe response was overwhelming, with thousands of applications from talented women founders who represent the diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences of women entrepreneurs across the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grand prize grant winner, <strong>Heather Jiang<\/strong> founded <a href=\"https:\/allegoriedesign.com\/\"><strong>All\u00e9gorie<\/strong><\/a> in 2019 to provide leather alternatives through plant-based fashion accessories, ultimately helping to reduce food waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Based in New York City, the company repurposes discarded fruits and recycled plastic into durable, stylish bags, backpacks and wallets, bringing innovative sustainability practices to the fashion and food industries. Jiang will receive a $50,000 grant and a suite of small business services from Block Advisors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKnowing that our customers keep coming back over the years and love our products is what gets me out of bed,\u201d said Heather Jiang. \u201cFund Her Future will help us unlock our scalability potential and increase All\u00e9gorie\u2019s awareness so we can reach more customers and expand our sustainability impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The four honorable mentions, each receiving a $12,500 grant and a year of small business services from Block Advisors, include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Erica Cole | <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/no-limbits.com\/\"><strong>No Limbits<\/strong><\/a> based in Richmond, VA: As someone with a limb difference, Erica created her company to provide stylish but functional options for those with different mobility, sensory, and functional needs. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ashley Ugarte | <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hijita.com\/\"><strong>Hijita<\/strong><\/a> based in Austin, TX<strong>:<\/strong> Using regenerative and agroforestry practices in her small-batch chocolate company, Ashley, a first-generation American, shares her rich Mexican heritage and passion for chocolate with her customers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Addie Gundry | <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hellopluie.com\/\"><strong>Pluie<\/strong><\/a> based in Keller, TX: As a new mom, Addie experienced firsthand the challenges of changing diapers in unhygienic public bathrooms, so she created a patent-protected self-sanitizing changing station.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ameka Coleman | <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/strandsoffaith.com\/password\"><strong>Strands of Faith<\/strong><\/a> based in Pearl, MS: A former healthcare professional, Ameka started her company after noticing many healthcare patients lacked access to non-toxic haircare products that celebrated their textured hair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 6,000 applicants submitted to the grant program. Narrowing down the winners from the thousands of exceptional submissions was a rigorous process handled by a selection committee comprised of more than 40 H&amp;R Block associates, including members of H&amp;R Block\u2019s Women\u2019s Network Belonging Group.
